History
Back in 1995, when the Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC) announced that Kelly Air Force Base was on the closure list, the news could not have been worse for San Antonio, Texas. But, what came out of perceived tragedy is Lockheed Martin's most successful public/private partnership, Kelly Aviation Center. Here are significant milestones of our 11-year history:
- 1995 – BRAC determination to close Kelly Air Force Base in six years
- 1998 – U.S. Air Force issues a Request for Proposal for the Propulsion Business Area (PBA) Competition for the F100, TF39, T56, and aircraft accessories workloads
- 1999 – The Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center and Lockheed Martin Team wins the PBA Competition, and Kelly Aviation Center is born
- 2003 – Agreement made with GE to transition the F110 and F118 MRO workloads plus new engine assembly of the F110 to Kelly Aviation Center
- 2005 – Rolls-Royce joins Kelly Aviation Center, L.P., joint venture
- 2006 – CF6-50 KC-10 work transfers from GE Ontario, California
- 2007 – CF6-80 booster (LPC) work began at Kelly Aviation Center
- 2009 – Commercial CF6-50 engine MRO began at Kelly Aviation Center
